How it all started…Background Information

Having a house built was farthest from my mind. Random thoughts that crossed my mind were like: “they spit those things up” “they build them and are gone” and “it’s probably more expensive”

My husband and I began discussing buying our first home together, in the Maryland/DC area, around mid 2014 and finally began looking in August. Our 1st choice location was right where we are, however, there just wasn’t anything we liked and could comfortably afford on 1 income. Then we came across a new construction community not too far from us and it had all the amenities we enjoy where we currently live (pool, tot lot…we have 2 young children). One thing led to another and in a matter of 2 weeks, we went from that community to another community 20 minutes/10 miles away 🙂 In a city we both NEVER imagined living in. Not because it’s a bad neighborhood/city, but because it’s more northeast and we don’t venture that way…ALL we do is south of where we are (church, friends, family, shops, work, everything!).

We are thrilled with the process from beginning to now. The Sale Rep was fantastic on the phone (what impressed me the most and “won” me over was that she pretty much insisted that my realtor register so that she could get her commission). At this particular community, Ryan Homes was offering up to $15K in closing cost help (which was a Huge Plus for us) and the developer paid for the “Front Foot Fee” and so that was $19800 saved over 33 years or $600 a year!!!! They not only have a pool, tot lot, they have a 24 hour fitness center (which my husband loves because he uses the 1 we have where we currently live). We also get to select a lot more of the finishings than with some other builders. Lastly, things such as granite kitchen countertops, stainless steel/gas appliances and hardwood are included…oh so is the finished basement (entry level in our townhouse).

All this to say that it’s Amazing how we started with our own ideas in the beginning of 2014 (& believe me when I say I was on looking at houses online EVERYDAY for several months lol) and the Lord had another (better) one for our family! (Proverbs 16:9….A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.)

More on what we choose and what happened next….

Welcome to our Journey

Writing a blog is very much out of my comfort zone, but after much consideration, I think it’s a good way to track all the changes and place to hold our written memories to share with our children and look back at.  It’s also a great way to keep you all up-to-date, all at once.

I am not a blogger, so please bare with me! 🙂 Hope you enjoy watching the process unfold and evolve, as much as we are!  Also, for those of you who are not family/friends and just came upon this blog while researching Ryan Homes…you are more than welcome to join the journey!  I totally understand…that’s how I came upon the idea of blogging it…from other people who blogged about their homes and finding very useful/encouraging information on them.  Hopefully this blog can be helpful to somebody else!

Well, welcome to Our Strauss Home Journey & enjoy the ride 😉 Please feel free to leave comments or ask questions.
